Chateau Angelus

Chateau Angelus

Angélus is certainly one of the châteaux that has progressed the most over the last thirty years. This meteoric rise earned it the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé B during the 1996 revision of the Saint-Émilion classification. A bold marriage of grape varieties, including a high proportion of Cabernet Franc, combined with a rare creaminess, purity, and elegance. These few words define the style of this legendary château. In 2012, with the new classification, it joined the iconic Château Cheval Blanc and Château Ausone. It thus accessed the very exclusive elite of the Saint-Émilion appellation with the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A. Moreover, to celebrate its ascent among the greatest, the 2012 vintage was presented in a uniquely designed bottle, with black and gold screen printing.

"Exacting standards lead us to always prioritize excellence. That is why our label is a symbol of dreams and trust." Hubert de Boüard Laforest

Château history

The Angélus vineyard is located in the heart of a natural amphitheater, overlooked by three churches. In this space, blessed by the gods, the bells of these three churches could be heard ringing… the Angelus. The name was found. It was at the end of the 18th century that the de Boüard de Laforest family settled in Saint-Emilion. At the beginning of the 20th century, Maurice de Boüard de Laforest inherited the estate. He expanded it, notably adding a three-hectare enclosure in 1920, named L’Angélus.
Jacques and Christian de Boüard de Laforest continued the work of their father and previous generations. The property was classified in 1954. In 1985, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest—Jacques’ son—took over the management of the estate, which by then comprised about twenty hectares. He was joined in 1987 by his cousin Jean-Bernard Grenié—Christian’s son-in-law. In 1996, Angelus was classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, Hubert’s daughter, joined the estate in 2012. 2012 was also the year Angelus attained the status of Premier Grand Cru Classé A.
Today, as President and CEO of Angélus, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal represents the 8th generation of the de Boüard de Laforest family and now embodies Angélus. It is her responsibility to continue the work of her father, her grandfather, and her ancestors, with the sole objective of continuing to elevate Angelus.
