Domaine Blain-Gagnard offers precise and elegant wines, particularly from Chassagne-Montrachet. They feature a beautiful expression of Chardonnay, with an often rich texture and a fresh balance. The white wines present a complex aromatic palette, while the reds, which are rarer, demonstrate a lovely finesse of tannins. The collection as a whole possesses interesting aging potential.
Domaine Blain-Gagnard was born in 1980 from the marriage of Jean-Marc Blain and Claudine Gagnard. This union of two winemaking families brought together plots inherited from the Domaine Delagrange-Bachelet, Jean-Marc’s grandparents, and the Domaine Gagnard-Delagrange, Claudine’s parents.
The estate is rooted in the hillsides of Chassagne-Montrachet, an exceptional terroir where Chardonnay reigns supreme, though Pinot Noir also finds a remarkable expression there. Jean-Marc Blain, originally from the Sancerre region, has fully dedicated himself to the cultivation of these grape varieties, taking advantage of the diversity of the soils. The limestone soils contribute to the finesse and elegance of the wines, while the marl gives them remarkable structure and depth. Over the course of a few decades, Jean-Marc Blain has become a respected figure in Chassagne-Montrachet. Notably, he is among the few producers who farm the prestigious Grand Cru Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. Today, the estate encompasses nearly twenty appellations.
