Domaine de La Janasse offers powerful and silky red wines. They display a lovely freshness and concentrated texture, with tannins that are present yet elegant. The aromatic profile is complex, often featuring black fruits and spices. The overall balance is harmonious, with a beautiful length on the palate. These wines have excellent aging potential, particularly the Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Domaine de La Janasse, located in Courthézon in the heart of the Rhône Valley, is above all a family story. It was in the 1970s that Aimé Sabon initiated the transformation of a farm into a benchmark wine estate. The story truly began in 1967, when Aimé Sabon, upon returning from his military service, took over his father's vines, who at the time delivered his harvest to the local cooperative winery. He also acquired the vines of his father-in-law, who sold his grapes to wine merchants.
Thus, in 1973, Domaine de La Janasse was officially created, taking its name from a family farm and an eponymous locality in Courthézon. Aimé Sabon’s ambition led to the acquisition of new terroirs, tripling the estate's surface area from 15 to 55 hectares. His son, Christophe Sabon, after training in oenology in Beaune and Mâcon, became involved in the estate in the early 1990s. Today, Christophe Sabon carries on this family tradition with passion, crafting meticulous Côtes-du-Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines whose reputations are well-established. The estate spans privileged terroirs, producing particularly refined Côtes-du-Rhône and universally acclaimed Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
