Château history

This is the best part of the Santenots appellation, formerly classified as "tête de cuvée" by Doctor Lavalle. Spread across several plots that Jules Lafon (Dominique's great-grandfather and founder of the estate) purchased successively, the vineyard totals 3.8 hectares. With an eastern exposure and very clay-heavy, shallow red soil over a hard limestone subsoil, the site is very sunny and early-ripening. The average vine age is over 30 years, with the oldest vines at 60 years and the youngest at 3 years. The wines are deeply colored, rich, and profound, with present tannins but a beautiful elegance on the finish. Aromas of black fruit dominate: blackberry, blackcurrant, and cherry. Possessing more power than most Volnays, this is a wine for laying down (10 to 20 years).
