Domaine de la Vougeraie
History of the estate
La Vougeraie, A Success on the Slopes of Beaune and Nuits
La Vougeraie is naturally in pursuit of excellence. This is primarily because the wines are produced with respect for the environment. Whether red or white, they showcase the purity of the terroir through biodynamic farming practices. The estate is the jewel in the crown of the Boisset family, where pinot noirs and chardonnays are crafted to perfection. Moreover, the delicacy of the finest Burgundy wines is reflected in the vintages of La Vougeraie. It is said that Musigny elicits the most beautiful emotions. This is to say, it truly stirs the senses. Furthermore, the estate consists of 67 plots, about 44 hectares in total, all entirely managed using biodynamic methods. The distribution is straightforward, two-thirds in Côte de Nuits and one-third in Côte de Beaune. The heavily worked soils and low yields result in a lovely concentration of grapes.
The Birth of La Vougeraie
Everything began in 1964 when the first plot, Les Evocelles, was purchased. Five hectares planted around Gevrey-Chambertin. Then, the birth certificate of La Vougeraie was officially dated in 1999. The family home was inherited from the lineage of Jean-Claude Boisset. Twenty years later, La Vougeraie established itself in Côte de Beaune and moved closer to Vougeot. First, Charles and Nathalie Boisset bought the Clos du Prieuré, then the first plot of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, and Charmes-Chambertin. Finally, the purchase of Corton Clos-du-Roi and Beaune-Grèves marked a significant progression. With all these acquisitions, La Vougeraie became a signature estate of Vougeot, especially with its famous monopoly: Vougeot 1er Cru "Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot".
The Conquest of the Two Slopes
The estate expanded into Côte de Nuits with the purchase of Clos des Corvées Pagets and Damodes in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Then, as early as 1996, the acquisition of Corton-Charlemagne strengthened its presence in Beaune. Two vineyards in Pommard, the premier crus of Beaune and Savigny, completed the new dimension of the estate. Finally, in Flagey-echezeaux, En Bollery (the famous plot opposite Clos de Vougeot) and the premier cru les Cras, were acquired. La Vougeraie now comprises ten hectares in the family village. In conclusion, all these acquisitions have fueled a return to the roots. Now, Jean-Charles and Nathalie Boisset are ready to take on the challenges of a flagship estate.
Bettane + Desseauve Commentary
Sylvie POILLOT continues the inspired work of Pierre VINCENT, who has joined the Leflaive estate. The vineyard, certified organic and cultivated biodynamically, produces some of the most accomplished wines in current-day Burgundy, in the greatest terroirs on both sides. We must thank the BOISSET family for accepting the yield sacrifices associated with the requirements of this farming method. The wines, increasingly vinified with whole grapes, possess a superlative elegance of texture and flavor. Nothing is ordinary here, from the simple Bourgogne terre-de-famille to the Bonnes-mares and Chevalier-Montrachet, which were at the pinnacle of a range that reaches exceptional heights.
