La Chablisienne

Domain comments

In addition to its imposing size, this cooperative cellar, which is the largest producer of Chablis, has never skimped on the quality of its wines. Meticulous care of the soils, vines, and grapes is provided by all the partner winemakers of La Chablisienne. Among its countless produced cuvées, there is always a perfect mastery of vinification and aging to give the Chablis wines great consistency, minerality, and freshness.

History of the estate

The story of La Chablisienne began in 1923 when a handful of winemakers, led by Abbé Balitrand, joined forces to overcome the economic challenges of the region and established a cooperative cellar in the heart of the Chablis vineyards. Until the mid-1950s, the members delivered their produce to La Chablisienne, which carried out the blending and primarily sold to wholesale trade. In its pursuit of higher quality and a unique house style, it decided to bring in the harvests as musts, a unique feature that would become the hallmark of the house and allow for complete control over the winemaking process. In 1996, the French Wine Review awarded it the distinction of Cooperative of the Year, in recognition of its vinicultural and commercial progress.
Two years later, as part of its ongoing development, it acquired the famous Château Grenouilles, the rarest of the grand crus of Chablis.

Today:

Nowadays, La Chablisienne brings together 300 producers for approximately 1,200 hectares of vineyards and offers around thirty cuvées in all appellations (Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru, Chablis Grand Cru). A diversity of white wines that allows it to skillfully express all the aromatic characteristics of the king grape of Chablis: the chardonnay.
