History of the Château

The estate is located in the very heart of the Chablis vineyard, in Milly; Bernard, a fourth-generation winemaker, established himself here in 1959 with just 2 hectares. Today, the estate spans 27 hectares, half of which is dedicated to Chablis 1er Cru. The vineyard is organically farmed with rigorous oversight, ensuring the grapes reach their optimal level of maturity and expression.

Situated at the core of the Chablis vineyard, Domaine Bernard Defaix is presently overseen by the fourth generation of vine-growers. The vineyard now stretches over 27 hectares, with half dedicated to Chablis 1er Cru. With a deep respect for the environment and a desire to highlight the unique Chablis terroir, the Defaix family has transitioned their entire vineyard to organic farming.
