€185,00 / 75cl inc. VAT | Limited availability

In this great vintage of remarkable straightness, Cos d'Estournel 2016 asserts itself with striking depth and radiance. The palate unfolds very pure fresh blackberry, nuanced by fine licorice and a mineral backbone that stretches the wine without the slightest roughness. Carried by noble tannins and a sleek finish, this cuvée is built to span the decades with panache.

Jeb Dunnuck Tasting Note

The second wine of the estate is no slouch. The 2016 Pagodes de Cos has some grand vin character in its cassis and graphite aromas and flavors. Showing more incense, graphite, and hints of flowers with air time, this medium to full-bodied, rounded, beautifully textured effort is well worth a case purchase. Drink this beauty, the equal to most estates’ top wines, while you wait on the grand vin to come around. Drink 2019-2039.

About the Producer

Château Cos d'Estournel, a Second Cru Classé of Saint-Estèphe, is an iconic estate in the Médoc. Its founder, Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, a prominent figure of the 19th century, was one of the first to export his wines to India, earning him the nickname "Maharaja of Saint-Estèphe." Today, Michel Reybier is dedicated to revealing the full potential of this remarkable terroir. Ideally situated on a hill overlooking the Gironde, the vineyard grants the wines of Cos d'Estournel remarkable elegance, aromatic complexity, and aging potential, where Cabernet Sauvignon expresses itself with particular intensity. In addition to the grand vin Château Cos d'Estournel, the estate also produces Les Pagodes de Cos, an ambitious second wine, as well as a rare Cos d'Estournel Blanc, testifying to the richness of the terroir. Legend has it that the château's iconic pagodas were inspired by the oriental architecture discovered during its founder's travels. More recently, the range has been enriched with G d'Estournel, sourced from rigorously selected plots in the northern Médoc. The estate works notably with appellations such as Second Crus, which extend its signature with consistency. Among the most sought-after cuvées are Château Cos d'Estournel, Château Cos d'Estournel 'Les Pagodes de Cos', and Château Cos d'Estournel Blanc, all useful benchmarks for understanding the identity of the estate.
