Marked by the fullness of its twenty-six years, the 2000 vintage brings to this Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux from Domaine des Comtes Armand an admirably melted texture and a great serenity of body. The wine opens with a subtle bouquet of fresh blackberry and fine licorice, enhanced by a mineral touch that preserves all the freshness of this exceptional terroir. On the palate, the length is remarkable and stretches out with elegance, confirming the superb evolution of this great red Burgundy.

Vinous Tasting Note

The 2000 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epéneaux has a well defined bouquet with raspberry, crushed strawberry, undergrowth and bay leaf scents. I appreciate the discreet manner in which it gains intensity with aeration, repaying those with the nous to decant this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin: a well proportioned Clos des Epéneaux with a dash of spice enlivening the finish. Returning to the 2001, there is a completeness to the 2000, I find that it has matured better. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2000 and 2001 horizontal tasting.
