Jeb Dunnuck Tasting Note

Deep ruby/plum-hued, the 2023 Saint Joseph offers a slightly darker style in its red plum and borderline blue fruits as well as ground pepper, violets, and crushed stone. It's medium-bodied and has a nicely concentrated, focused style that brings ample tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and outstanding length. Give bottles 2-3 years if you can, and it should have a solid decade thereafter of prime drinking. Drink 2028-2038.

About the Producer

Domaine Courbis, an iconic signature of the Northern Rhône Valley, flourishes on the steep hillsides of Cornas and Saint-Joseph. The history of this family estate spans several generations, and today, brothers Laurent and Dominique Courbis passionately carry on this legacy. Together, they cultivate an exceptional vineyard, blending ancestral know-how with modern techniques. Domaine Courbis crafts red wines that are both powerful and elegant, particularly in the Cornas appellation, where the single-parcel cuvées La Sabarotte, Les Eygats, and Champelrose eloquently express the typicity of this unique terroir. In Saint-Joseph, the Les Royes and La Cotte Sud cuvées also bear witness to the estate's talent. One can also discover remarkable white wines in Saint-Joseph, as well as a strong presence in Saint-Péray with the Le Tram cuvée. A long family tradition that is felt in every bottle, making each tasting a journey into the heart of the Rhône Valley. Among the most sought-after cuvées are Domaine Courbis Cornas La Sabarotte, Domaine Courbis Cornas Les Eygats, and Domaine Courbis Cornas Champelrose—useful benchmarks for understanding the identity of the estate.
