MUGNIER Jacques Frederic Chambolle Musigny 2014

Musky aromas of redcurrant, strawberry and earth. Sweet and expressive in the mouth, offering a fleshy quality to its flavors of strawberry, red licorice and underbrush. Rather open-knit today but with good precision of fruit, this friendly wine should be accessible early.

While many reds from this vintage can be a little austere today (2014 showed better than 2013 from barrel, but from bottle, 2013s are often outperforming 2014s), Roumier's 2014 Chambolle-Musigny Village is a fine success, offering up pretty aromas of berry fruits, peonies and spices, discreetly framed by oak, followed by a medium-bodied, lively palate with a good core of fruit and present but not austere structuring tannins. It will enter its drinking window in earnest in a few more years.
