Château history

Domaine Charles Joguet, anchored in Sazilly in the heart of the Chinon appellation, is an iconic figure in the Loire wine landscape. Its history is one of rebirth, artistic vision, and a profound respect for the terroir.
In the early 1950s, Charles Joguet, a painter and engraver by training, inherited a few hectares of family vines. Far from merely perpetuating tradition, he set out to revolutionize local practices. Deeply convinced of the exceptional potential of the Chinon terroir, he dedicated himself to revealing the purest expression of Cabernet Franc. He was among the first to practice grass cover in the vineyards, limit yields, and vinify each parcel separately in order to exalt its specific characteristics.
Today, the estate spans several renowned parcels, including Clos de la Dioterie, Clos du Chêne Vert, and Varennes du Grand Clos. Each terroir is cultivated with meticulous attention, with the goal of producing elegant, complex wines with great longevity. The Joguet style, unmistakable and unique, is a model of balance and finesse, acclaimed by international critics. Following Charles Joguet's passing in 1991, the spirit of the estate has been upheld by the existing team, ensuring the continuity of his life's work.
