Chateau Larcis-Ducasse

Chateau Larcis-Ducasse

Château Larcis Ducasse has long been the source of a truly great wine. In 2012, the estate was elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Émilion. The distinctiveness of its terroir stems from the presence of clay-limestone soils on plots with a full-south exposure. The musts therefore reach impressive levels of ripeness, giving rise to complex, rounded wines. One finds the opulent character of Libournais Merlot, straightforward fruit aromas, as well as great elegance and significant depth.

Château history

The wines of Larcis Ducasse were already considered to be of very high quality as early as the 16th century. In 1867, a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exposition rewarded the estate's wines. In 1893, Henri Raba purchased the property. He invested a large part of his fortune in renovating the cellar and maintaining the terraced vineyards. Upon his death, his son inherited the estate, later passing it on to his niece, Hélène Gratiot Alphandéry, in 1941. After the end of the war, she managed the estate with the help of estate manager Pharaon Roche. In 1990, her son succeeded her. With the help of his estate manager, Philippe Dubois, he continued the tradition of quality at Larcis Ducasse.
Today
Nicolas Thienpont, from the famous family of Bordeaux merchants and owners, has been the estate manager of the château since 2002. He contributes to propelling Château Larcis Ducasse toward excellence a little more each day. Their efforts were rewarded in 2012, when Château Larcis Ducasse was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Emilion.
