Chateau Ormes de Pez

Chateau Ormes de Pez

Château Ormes de Pez covers 32 hectares of vines on the magnificent terroir of Saint-Estèphe. Located 60 kilometers from Bordeaux, Château Ormes de Pez benefits from the influence of the ocean, which provides mildness and protection against spring frosts. This lovely wine exhibits a seductive and fleshy profile.
Great elegance, fine tannins, and beautiful aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry define this delicious Cru Bourgeois. While already very enjoyable in its youth, Château Ormes de Pez, like many Saint-Estèphes, possesses a tannic structure that allows it to evolve over several decades.

Château history

Anchored in the Médoc wine landscape since the 18th century, Château Ormes de Pez was once called the Domaine de Pez (which means "peace" in the local dialect). During the 19th century, the estate saw numerous owners. This situation stabilized the following century with the arrival of the Cazes family at the head of the Domaine. Jean Guillou, Master Winemaker of Ormes de Pez, died during the First World War. His wife, Marie Cazes (her maiden name), then took over the management of the Domaine. It was her brother, Jean-Charles Cazes, who purchased the property in 1940. Château Ormes de Pez has remained in the hands of the Cazes family, who today own several Médoc estates, including the illustrious Château Lynch-Bages.
Today...
As part of the J-M Cazes company, the château benefits from the same care as that provided to Château Lynch-Bages. Since 2010, technology has been the winemaker's ally, allowing for the use of satellite imagery to refine work within the plots. Furthermore, mindful that everything begins with the vine, extensive massal selection is carried out on the plant material.
