Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande produces sensual and seductive wines, a rare style in Pauillac. The silky texture and finesse of this vintage make it accessible in its youth. The blend gives pride of place to Merlot, which imparts suppleness and roundness. Fleshy and tender, this red Pauillac wine possesses a deep tannic structure and a cellaring potential of 10 to 20 years.

Château history

In 1850, the Pichon Longueville estate was divided; one part went to Baron Raoul Pichon (to create the Pichon Baron estate), while the second went to his three sisters, one of whom was Virginie, wife of the Comte de Lalande. She decided to administer her sisters' shares and manage the property, commissioning a Bordeaux architect, Duphot, to build the residence we know today, inspired by the Hôtel de Lalande in Bordeaux where her husband had spent his childhood. The Comtesse was driven by a great passion for vines and wine, and she would leave the estate much more than just her name…
Although the château attained the rank of Second Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the late 19th and early 20th centuries were difficult for the great Bordeaux estates, and a series of crises (phylloxera, wars, etc.) dealt a fatal blow to the wine economy. Consequently, the Comtesse's heirs sold the estate to Édouard and Louis Miailhe in 1925.
The two brothers carried out rigorous reorganization work that contributed greatly to the estate's renaissance. In 1978, it was once again a woman who would mark the history of this château: May Eliane de Lencquesaing, daughter of Édouard Miailhe. A great traveler, she carried the name Comtesse de Lalande beyond our borders and, through her investments, enabled the production of a wine of constant and remarkable quality.
Today
In 2007, Madame de Lencquesaing made the courageous decision to pass on her château to the Champagne house Louis Roederer. A decision that allows the estate to pursue its ambition of prestige and excellence.
