Domaine Bruno Clair

Domaine Bruno Clair

Domaine Bruno Clair offers Burgundy red wines that stand out for their silky texture and refined balance. The substance is elegant, carried by fine tannins and a persistent freshness. They often feature a complex aromatic profile, ranging from fresh red fruits to spicy and earthy notes. The impression on the palate is harmonious, with definite aging potential, particularly for the Premiers Crus and Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits.

Château history

It was in 1979 that Bruno Clair founded the estate that bears his name. The nascent operation was centered around a few plots located in the communes of Marsannay and Fixin, the *climat* of La Dominode in Savigny-les-Beaune, and a large fallow plot in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the locality known as "En la rue de Vergy." Bruno Clair is the son of Bernard Clair and the grandson of Joseph Clair (1889–1971), founder of the famous Domaine Clair-Daü in 1919 in Marsannay.
Following the death of Joseph Clair, family disagreements led to the dismantling of Domaine Clair-Daü in 1985. As early as 1986, Bruno was entrusted with the vines of his parents, brothers, and sisters, including prestigious plots in Clos de Bèze, Cazetiers, Clos St-Jacques, Vosne-Romanée, Clos du Fonteny, and Chambolle-Musigny. New acquisitions completed the estate in 1993 (Corton-Charlemagne, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Aloxe-Corton) and then in 1996 (Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle), bringing the total surface area to more than 23 hectares. With the help of André Geoffroy and Philippe Brun, Bruno Clair oversees the cultivation, harvesting, and bottling of his entire production. Domaine Bruno Clair is a member of the Association des Domaines Familiaux de Tradition. The work of selecting and marking the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines undertaken by Bernard Clair (1920–2005) has helped build an invaluable heritage of fine, low-yield vines, which a new generation of Burgundian winemakers benefits from today.
