Château history

The history of the estate dates back to the 10th century, with the priory of Saint-Vivant founded by Mannassès de Vergy. From the 13th century onwards, the monks developed vineyards on these exceptional terroirs. The cru, then known as “Cros de Cloux,” grew in prestige until its acquisition in 1760 by the Prince de Conti, who gave it his name. After the Revolution, the vineyard was fragmented and then rebuilt in the 19th century, notably by Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet, a founding figure of the modern estate. In the 20th century, the de Villaine family structured and expanded the property, definitively establishing the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti as an absolute benchmark.
