Domaine Matrot offers precise and elegant wines. They possess a beautiful freshness, a silky texture, and fine tannins, particularly in the reds from Maranges. The Meursaults, often sourced from Premiers Crus such as Charmes or Perrières, offer rich substance and perfect balance, with significant aging potential. The Puligny-Montrachets, such as Les Chalumeaux, are distinguished by their minerality and aromatic complexity.
Domaine Matrot is a family estate located in Meursault, in the heart of the Burgundy wine region. The history of the estate is intimately linked to that of the Matrot family, who have been rooted in the region for several generations.
The story begins with Joseph Matrot, born in 1881, who lived at the Château d'Evelle and already owned vines in Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny. In 1904, his marriage to Marguerite Amoignon, heiress to a wine estate in Meursault, marked a turning point. They settled in Meursault in Marguerite's family home, which remains the headquarters of the estate to this day. Joseph then expanded the operation by acquiring new plots. His son, Pierre Matrot, born in 1923, joined him in 1935 and continued the family legacy, also purchasing vines and modernizing the facilities. From 1976, Thierry Matrot, Pierre's son, born in 1955, began working on the estate.
Today, Domaine Matrot spans approximately 18 hectares of vines, spread across the communes of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, and Monthelie. Thierry Matrot manages the operation, vinifies, and markets his wines, thereby perpetuating the family tradition. The estate is renowned for its elegant and complex white wines, particularly its Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, as well as for its expressive red wines from Volnay and Burgundy.
