Domaine Thomas Morey

Domaine Thomas Morey

Domaine Thomas Morey offers wines with a silky texture, often marked by a beautiful freshness. They strike a subtle balance between substance and tension, with elegant tannins in the reds. The white Chassagne-Montrachets express a complex aromatic profile, ranging from white fruits to floral notes, while the reds display great depth. These wines possess a distinctive mineral imprint and interesting aging potential.

Château history

This climate, found at the extreme south of the Chassagne appellation, near the first vineyards of Santenay, is the most renowned of our estate.
History: Completely abandoned after the phylloxera crisis, the vineyard was brought back into cultivation following a mini land consolidation organized by my grandfather, Albert Morey, in the late 1950s. The current vines were planted in 1961.
Terroir: This very gently sloping hillside is composed of red, extremely stony soil, rich in fossils and shallow, resting on friable, poor rock that allows water to drain easily. These stony soils are also very warm because the stones capture more solar heat, which is the origin of the "Les Embrazées" place name ("Embraser," "embrasement," relating to fire and heat).
Tasting: The wines from this terroir are highly aromatic and can be enjoyed from the very first year. They offer delicate aromas of white flowers and very fresh white fruits that blossom over time. Very pleasant and with good concentration, they are perfect to consume from the fifth year onward but can age much longer depending on the vintage.
