Le Roc des Anges

Le Roc des Anges

Le Roc des Anges offers wines defined by their schist terroir. They feature a beautiful freshness, silky textures, and an expressive minerality. The red wines, often dominated by Carignan, offer concentrated substance with fine tannins and a persistent finish. The whites are distinguished by their balance and aromatic complexity, with definite aging potential.

Château history

Le Roc des Anges was established in February 2001. The estate’s name comes from an old Carignan vineyard planted on a vein of quartz, on a hillside with white soil amidst black schist, a locality known as the "roc blanc" (white rock). Angels were chosen to symbolize this quartz vein, thus transforming the Roc Blanc into the Roc des Anges (Rock of the Angels).
The Roc des Anges vineyard is located in the terroir of Montner, a village in the Pyrénées-Orientales (Northern Catalonia), nestled against the northern slope of the Força Réal mountain. The vineyard rests on shallow soils of ancient schist—soft and flaky—derived from the compression of pure clays dating back 570 million years. The bedrock, which is highly friable, lies less than a meter deep, allowing the vine roots to infiltrate it and draw resources, particularly during periods of summer heat and drought. Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet are the founders of this estate. The vineyard spans approximately 25 hectares, where grape varieties such as Grenache, Carignan, Maccabeu, and Syrah are cultivated. The estate has been certified organic since 2008 and biodynamic since 2011, reflecting a deep commitment to environmentally friendly viticultural practices. Le Roc des Anges is renowned for producing elegant wines that reflect the richness of the Catalan terroir.
