Vinous Tasting Note

Vinified with 30% whole bunch, the 2023 Charmes-Chambertin les Mazoyères Grand Cru comes from the oldest vines on the estate, planted 125 years ago. This is very succinct on the nose with red berries, brown spices and light autumn leaf scents, discrete but wonderfully focused. The palate is medium-bodied and very well balanced with finely chiseled tannins. A little spicier than its peers, this feels long and tender, with a dash of white pepper and clove lingering on the aftertaste. Very classy.

About the Producer

Domaine de la Vougeraie, owned by the Boisset family, has established itself as an essential benchmark in Burgundy. Anchored in the heart of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, this wine estate showcases a remarkable range of terroirs. Biodynamic farming is practiced with great rigor, with the goal of exalting the purest expression of each plot. After being led by Pierre Vincent, Sylvie Poillot now directs the winemaking, crafting wines of rare elegance. Among the jewels of Domaine de la Vougeraie are magnificent interpretations of Grand Crus, notably in the Côte de Nuits with Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, and Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyeres. The estate also excels in the Côte de Beaune, with a high-flying Corton-Charlemagne and the rare monopole, Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot. The latter, a historical curiosity, was planted with Pinot Beurot (Pinot Gris) in the Middle Ages by the monks of Cîteaux, bearing witness to the region's long viticultural history. Domaine de la Vougeraie thus illustrates a perfect mastery of Burgundy's greatest terroirs. Among the most sought-after cuvées are Domaine de la Vougeraie Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot Monopole, Domaine de la Vougeraie Musigny Grand Cru, and Domaine de la Vougeraie Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru—useful benchmarks for understanding the house's identity.
