The 2014 Clos L'Eglise has an elegance and purity similar to the 2012 as well as classic Pomerol notes of earthy red and black fruits, loamy earth, chocolate, leather, and cedar. It's medium-bodied, polished, impeccably balanced, and already drinking nicely in a youthful, vibrant style. It has another 15 years of prime drinking.

The 2014 Clos l’Eglise is tightly wound on the nose, requiring some coaxing, revealing red berry fruit, dark chocolate, truffle and light espresso aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, a little more precision than the prior vintage. It is almost creamy in texture towards the lactic finish that dissipates with aeration, gaining precision/tension. A forerunner for recent successes, this is a pretty and quite alluring Pomerol. This has real tension of ripe tannins and pretty fruit, yet it just rolls off the tongue. Full-bodied, very long and focused. Shows wonderful brightness and beauty. Seriously energetic. Drink or hold.

The 2014 Clos l'Eglise has a tightly wound bouquet, quite backward as you might expect, with broody black cherry, black truffle and touches of orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and tensile with a gentle grip in the mouth, touches of allspice and clove emerging towards the nicely structured and linear finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a well-crafted Clos l'Eglise that I suspect will have much more to give after three or four years in bottle.
