There exists a vineyard, relatively small in size, situated on the Pomerol plateau between two big names of the region, Petrus and Lafleur. It doesn't have the substantial reputation of its illustrious neighbors and its style, too, is distinct. Its name, thus defining its geographical location, is the source of one of the finest Pomerols available. The fourteen and a half hectares are primarily planted with Merlot, complemented by 20% Cabernet Franc. Its soil, mainly composed of gravel, yields a very fine Pomerol with subtle aromas of dried flowers and black fruit. It is unquestionably a Pomerol of a very elegant style.

History of the Château

Ideally located on the Pomerol plateau, surrounded by more than prestigious neighbors, Pétrus and Lafleur, Château La Fleur-Pétrus has long been a terroir recognized for the quality of its wines. During the 19th century, it was the Constant family who headed this small estate, which at the time only produced 4800 bottles. By the end of the century, the Pineau family took over the estate, which was subsequently expanded and now produces about twenty barrels per year. In 1953, Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired the property. It was from this point that the wine reached the superior quality level it still offers today. The terrible frost of 1956 had catastrophic consequences, forcing Jean-Pierre Moueix to replant virtually the entire vineyard. As the years passed, the vines aged and the wine naturally gained in richness and complexity. In 1995, the vineyard expanded, with four hectares from the neighboring Château le Gay being purchased. However, Moueix assures that the quality and style of the wine will remain unchanged.

<b>Today</b>

The technical management, common to the various properties of Jean-Pierre Moueix, was long provided by Jean-Claude Berrouet (who vinified many years at Petrus), and in 2007 it was handed over to Eric Murisasco, who continues to benefit from the advice of Jean-Claude Berrouet as a consultant. La Fleur Petrus is now part of the stars of the Pomerol appellation.
