Les Ormes de Pez
Château Comments
The Château Ormes de Pez spans 32 hectares of vineyards on the stunning terroir of Saint-Estèphe. Located 60 kilometers from Bordeaux, Château Ormes de Pez benefits from the ocean's influence, which provides mildness and protection against spring frosts. This lovely wine showcases a seductive and full-bodied profile.
It exudes great elegance, fine tannins, and delightful aromas of blackcurrant and blackberries, shaping this delicious cru bourgeois. While it is already very enjoyable in its youth, Château Ormes de Pez, like many Saint-Estèphe wines, has a tannic structure that allows it to evolve over several decades.
History of the Château
Established in the Medoc wine landscape since the 18th century, Château Ormes de Pez was once known as Domaine de Pez (which translates to "peace" in the local dialect).
Throughout the 19th century, the estate had numerous owners. This situation stabilized in the following century with the arrival of the Cazes family at the helm of the Domaine. Jean Guillou, the Master winemaker of Ormes de Pez, passed away during the First World War. His wife, Marie Cazes (maiden name), then took over the management of the Domaine. Her brother, Jean-Charles Cazes, bought the property in 1940. Château Ormes de Pez remains in the hands of the Cazes family who currently own several Medoc chateaus, including the renowned Château Lynch-Bages.
Today...
As part of the J-M Cazes company, the château benefits from the same care as that given to Château Lynch-Bages. Since 2010, technology has been the winemaker's ally, with the use of satellite imagery to refine work within the vineyard plots. Furthermore, recognizing that everything starts from the vine, extensive mass selection is carried out on the plant material.
