Château Comments
Angélus is undoubtedly one of the châteaus that has seen the most progress over the past thirty years. Its meteoric rise earned it the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé B during the revision of the Saint-Émilion classification in 1996. A bold blend of grape varieties, with a large proportion of cabernet franc, and a wine characterized by its creaminess, purity, and rare elegance. In a few words, this is what defines the style of this legendary château. In 2012, it joined the iconic Château Cheval Blanc and Château Ausone in the new classification, thus reaching the very exclusive elite of the Saint-Emilion appellation with the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A. To celebrate its rise among the greatest, the 2012 vintage was dressed in a unique bottle, with black and gold silkscreening.
"Our commitment to excellence always takes precedence. This is why our label is a symbol of aspiration and trust." Hubert de Boüard Laforest
History of the Château
The Angélus vineyard is nestled in the heart of a natural amphitheater, overlooked by three churches. In this divine space, the bells of these three churches would ring out...the Angelus. The name was thus born.
It was in the late 18th century that the de Boüard de Laforest family settled in Saint-Emilion.
At the start of the 20th century, Maurice de Boüard de Laforest inherited the estate. He expanded it by adding a three-hectare enclosure in 1920, named l'Angélus.
Jacques and Christian de Boüard de Laforest continue the work of their father and previous generations.
The property was classified in 1954. In 1985, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest - Jacques's son - took over the management of the estate, which now spans about twenty hectares. He was joined in 1987 by his cousin Jean-Bernard Grenié - Christian's son-in-law.
In 1996, Angelus was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé.
Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, Hubert's daughter, joined the estate in 2012.
2012 is also the year Angelus was promoted to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé A.
Today, as the President and CEO of Angélus, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, represents the 8th generation of the de Boüard de Laforest family, and is now the embodiment of Angelus.
It is her duty to continue the work of her father, grandfather, and ancestors with the sole aim of continuing to elevate Angelus.
