Jeb Dunnuck Tasting Note

Ripe currants, cassis, graphite, spice wood, camphor, and flowery incense all emerge from the 2015 Château Brane-Cantenac, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Carmenère that was aged 18 months in 70% new French oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple, and layered, it has a sexy, rounded style that's impossible to resist, with velvety tannins and a great finish. This flat-out awesome beauty might be the best since the 2009 and 2010 and can be drunk any time over the coming 25+ years or more. Drink 2026-2051. The 2015 was harvested from September 17 to October 19, hitting 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.66.

About the Producer

Château Brane-Cantenac, a Second Grand Cru Classé of Margaux, is a historic name in the Médoc, with origins dating back to the 18th century. Its history is marked by the figure of Baron Hector de Brane, a visionary nicknamed the "Napoleon of the Vines." The Lurton family, owners for several generations, is committed to perpetuating this legacy on the prestigious Cantenac plateau. Today, the château's team continues to craft wines of great elegance, precision, and complexity, with remarkable aging potential. The Brane-Cantenac style is distinguished by its aromatic refinement and silky texture, a signature typical of the great wines of the Margaux appellation. In addition to its main wine, the château also produces Le Baron de Brane, a more accessible second wine that offers a beautiful introduction to the Margaux terroir. Also noteworthy is Margaux de Brane Cantenac - Margaux de Henri Lurton, a more contemporary interpretation of the potential of this cru classé. The estate works notably with appellations such as Second Growths, which extend its signature with consistency. Among the most closely followed cuvées are Château Brane-Cantenac, Château Brane-Cantenac 'Le Baron de Brane', and Château Brane-Cantenac Blanc, all useful benchmarks for understanding the house's identity.
