Jeb Dunnuck Tasting Note

A classic, impeccably balanced white, the 2023 Château Carbonnieux Blanc sports a medium gold hue as well as ripe citrus and stone fruits intermixed with minty herbs and a kiss of minerality. Based on 68% Sauvignon Blanc and 32% Sémillon and brought up 10 months on the lees in 70% French oak barrels (20% new) with the balance in 30- and 55-hectoliter wooden vats, it's medium-bodied and has a clean, focused mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and outstanding length. It will shine on the dinner table over the coming decade. Drink 2026-2036.

About the Producer

Château Carbonnieux is anchored in Léognan as one of the historic signatures of Pessac-Léognan, possessing that rare dual talent for both reds and whites that defines the truly great estates of Graves. Born in a landscape long shaped by the vine, the estate has traversed the centuries—from the Ferrons to the monks of Sainte-Croix, and then to the Perrin family—without ever losing its course. Today, Eric and Philibert Perrin continue this legacy with a precise interpretation of the vineyard and a true sense of balance. The whites of Château Carbonnieux have long carried the house’s reputation, characterized by a straight, chiseled, and luminous profile, while the reds gain in depth, tannic finesse, and structure with age. The collection maintains a serious elegance, never ostentatious, which perfectly captures the singularity of Léognan. Alongside the grand vin, La Croix de Carbonnieux and the estate’s other cuvées offer another gateway into this universe, without diluting the property’s personality. Château Carbonnieux thus remains a benchmark address for those seeking classic, balanced, and enduringly refined Graves.
