Jeb Dunnuck Tasting Note

Based on 80% Clairette and 20% Roussanne and aged six months in demi-muids, the 2024 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc is a big, ripe, sexy white offering opulent stone fruits, honeyed flowers, toast, and mandarin orange aromas and flavors. It's medium to full-bodied, with a pure, layered mouthfeel, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. With roughly 333 cases produced, this incredibly satisfying beauty is best enjoyed over the coming 4-6 years. Drink 2025-2031. I always love the wines from Baptiste Grangeon, and these are ripe, sexy, yet always traditional wines that bring tons of pleasure. The range includes the classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape (85% Grenache and 15% Syrah, aged 18 months in 85% concrete and 15% foudre), the Vieilles Vignes (same blend, same aging), and the Renaissance (60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre, aged 24 months in 33% new barrels and 67% demi-muids). The whites are also worth seeking out, based on 80% Clairette and 20% Roussanne and aged in demi-muids, showing a big, ripe, opulent style. The reds are full-on Grenache bombs that drink beautifully on release yet can evolve gracefully for 15-20 years.

About the Producer

Domaine de Cristia is a family affair rooted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where several generations of the Grangeon family have succeeded one another. The adventure began with Etienne, before Alain gave the estate new momentum, notably through a rigorous selection of grape varieties. Today, Baptiste, Dominique, and Florent continue to promote this heritage with precise work in the vineyard. Domaine de Cristia has forged a solid reputation thanks to its powerful and elegant red wines for aging, which reflect the prestigious terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a particularly profound expression of this terroir, as is the Renaissance cuvée. We also appreciate the Collection Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Tradition, a must-have. The estate also offers a Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, demonstrating the diversity of expressions possible within this appellation. The range extends to the Cristia Collection Côtes du Rhône, fruity and indulgent red wines that serve as a delightful introduction to the estate's style. A flagship signature of the Southern Rhône, waiting to be discovered. Among the most sought-after cuvées are Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, and Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Renaissance—useful benchmarks for understanding the identity of the house.
