Wine Spectator Tasting Note

Expressive and alluring, this red delivers aromas and flavors of rose, cherry, raspberry, sandalwood and stony mineral. Vibrant acidity is the guiding force, while a line of dusty tannins informs the finish. Nonetheless, plenty of fruit and spice flavors resonate through the long aftertaste. Best from 2029 through 2048. 19 cases imported.

About the Producer

Domaine de la Vougeraie, owned by the Boisset family, has established itself as an essential benchmark in Burgundy. Anchored in the heart of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, this wine estate showcases a remarkable range of terroirs. Biodynamic farming is practiced with great rigor, with the goal of exalting the purest expression of each plot. After being led by Pierre Vincent, Sylvie Poillot now directs the winemaking, crafting wines of rare elegance. Among the jewels of Domaine de la Vougeraie are magnificent interpretations of Grand Crus, notably in the Côte de Nuits with Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, and Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyeres. The estate also excels in the Côte de Beaune, with a high-flying Corton-Charlemagne and the rare monopole, Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot. The latter, a historical curiosity, was planted with Pinot Beurot (Pinot Gris) in the Middle Ages by the monks of Cîteaux, bearing witness to the region's long viticultural history. Domaine de la Vougeraie thus illustrates a perfect mastery of Burgundy's greatest terroirs. Among the most sought-after cuvées are Domaine de la Vougeraie Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot Monopole, Domaine de la Vougeraie Musigny Grand Cru, and Domaine de la Vougeraie Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru—useful benchmarks for understanding the house's identity.
