Guigal
History of the estate
The House of Guigal was established in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the small village of Ampuis in the northern part of the Rhône Valley.
In 1961, Marcel Guigal, who was only 17 years old, joined the family business. When his father Etienne unexpectedly became blind, the management of the family estate fell to Marcel Guigal. Under Marcel's leadership, the estate underwent a dramatic transformation. From the acquisition of Vidal-Fleury in 1984, the purchase of the Château d'Ampuis and the production of the most sought-after wines of the Côte-Rôtie appellation: La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque; Guigal has become a staple of the region.
In addition to these three great cuvées, the famous Condrieu La Dorianne, the Château d'Ampuis cuvée, the Vigne de l'hospice in Saint-Joseph and the Ex-Voto cuvées in Hermitage must be mentioned. All these extraordinary cuvées benefit from three years of aging, which gives the great wines of Guigal their silky texture. Alongside these great wines, Guigal has developed a trading activity throughout the Rhône Valley. All of these traded wines maintain a high level of consistency, including the generic Côtes-du-Rhône.
Today
In 2006, the Guigal family acquired the domaine de Bonserine (Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu) to assist in its development while maintaining independent management. Philippe Guigal, Marcel's son, is the third generation continuing the family's work in service of the great wines of the Rhône Valley.
