Wine Advocate Tasting Note

A spicy, light, vaguely fruity nose is followed by some evidence of ripe fruit, medium body, and low tannin. The wine delivers some oak-tinge, ripe berry/curranty fruit in a soft, easy-going style. Drink it during its first 4-6 years of life as a picnic or luncheon wine.

About the Producer

Château Branaire-Ducru, an iconic cru classé of Saint-Julien, is firmly anchored in an exceptional terroir in the Médoc. Its history is intimately linked to that of Beychevelle, of which it was once a part. Elevated to the rank of Fourth Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the château experienced a new lease on life thanks to Patrick Maroteaux, and subsequently his son François-Xavier, who knew how to combine tradition with modernity. Branaire-Ducru wines are distinguished by their natural elegance, harmonious balance, and an aromatic complexity where Cabernet Sauvignon expresses itself with great finesse. This great Saint-Julien wine is particularly appreciated for its richness and aging potential. Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, the second wine, offers a more accessible interpretation of the Branaire style while maintaining a refined structure. The origin of the name "Branaire" may come from a Gaulish term meaning "clay mound," a subtle reminder of the history of this unique place. A great Saint-Julien wine that is an absolute must-discover. The estate works notably with appellations such as Quatrièmes Crus, which consistently extend its signature. Among the most followed cuvées are Château Branaire-Ducru, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru, and Château Branaire-Ducru Le Haut-Médoc de Branaire-Ducru, all useful benchmarks for understanding the house's identity.
