This Chambolle Musigny 1er cru les Baudes 2017 asserts itself with great frankness: the fruity substance, dominated by black cherry, unfolds with notable precision. Sweet pepper and a touch of noble undergrowth add complexity to the whole, while a silky texture confers a promising elegance. The current balance suggests a beautiful evolution.

Frédéric Magnien
Domain Details
Born in May 1969, in one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world, Frédéric Magnien is the 5th generation of vintners in the Magnien family. While assisting his father in the vineyards and cellar, he pursued his studies at the Beaune wine school.
In order to gain experience from other vintners, he worked the 1986 harvest at Jean-Noël Gagnard in Chassagne-Montrachet. He then committed himself to the Michel Magnien estate in Morey-Saint-Denis, working alongside his father from 1987 to 1991.
Eager to deepen his knowledge, he decided to work abroad in 1992. He started with a 4-month stint in California, USA at Josh Jemsen's Calera estate. This was followed by 6 months in Australia at Garry Farr's Bannockburn Vineyard.
Upon his return for the 1993 harvest, he enrolled at the University of Dijon and graduated with a degree in oenology.
In September 1995, he made one of the most significant decisions of his life by establishing a wine trading house under his own name: FREDERIC MAGNIEN.
The goal was to differentiate the roles of vintner and winemaker: as he does not own any vineyards, Frédéric Magnien plays a crucial advisory role to the vintners he collaborates with throughout the year. This allows him to select plots primarily of old vines (over 40 years) and to purchase very high-quality grapes at optimal maturity, from some of the most prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits.
This enables him to explore, with identical vinification, barrels and aging, the aromatic diversity of the terroirs of Côte de Nuits, extending the passion of the viticulturist. The Frédéric Magnien House thus began in 1995 with 21 barrels spread over 5 appellations and now has about 1000 barrels.
