Jeb Dunnuck Tasting Note

A wine compared to the 2015 by Marc Perrin, the 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is already drinking nicely, with notable complexity and depth in its garrigue, sweet spice, incense, and both black cherry and currant-like fruit. The 2010s are just now starting to open up and drink well, and this full-bodied effort has impressive purity, notable mid-palate density, and ripe tannin, all suggesting it has a long life ahead of it.

About the Producer

Château de Beaucastel, a flagship estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, shines across the southern Rhône Valley. The history of this place is intimately linked to the Perrin family, who acquired it at the beginning of the 20th century, instilling a vision that would propel the estate to the summit. Today, Jean-Pierre Perrin and his son Marc perpetuate the family legacy, cultivating this iconic vineyard according to the principles of biodynamics. The château is renowned for its powerful and complex red wines, masterful interpretations of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The Hommage à Jacques Perrin cuvée, the estate's crown jewel, embodies the excellence found in every bottle. Beaucastel also distinguishes itself with its highly expressive white wines, including the Roussanne Vieilles Vignes cuvée, a rare wine particularly sought after by connoisseurs. The Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel, another wine produced by the estate, offers a more accessible approach to the Beaucastel style, while maintaining the same exacting standards of quality. Beaucastel wines are built for aging, gaining aromatic complexity over the years, a testament to an exceptional terroir. Among the most closely followed cuvées are Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grand Cuvée Hommage à Jacques Perrin, and Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Roussanne Vieilles Vignes—useful benchmarks for understanding the identity of the house.
