Jeb Dunnuck Tasting Note

The 2005 Château Lynch-Bages is terrific, with a ripe, yet also surprisingly elegant profile in its medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, graphite, and leather. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot, it has ripe, nicely integrated tannins, good balance, and is already surprisingly accessible. I would drink bottles any time over the coming 10-15 years.

About the Producer

Château Lynch-Bages, proudly established on the Bages plateau in Pauillac, is an iconic name in Bordeaux. This Cinquième Grand Cru Classé possesses a rich history, marked by the imprint of passionate families. Following Thomas Lynch in the late 18th century, it was the Cazes family who shaped the estate's identity starting in 1939. Long embodied by Jean-Michel Cazes, the estate is today managed by his descendants, who skillfully perpetuate a tradition of excellence. The wines of Château Lynch-Bages brilliantly express the typicity of the Pauillac appellation, offering a complex aromatic palette where dark fruits mingle with an elegant tannic structure, the estate's signature. In addition to the grand vin rouge, the remarkable Blanc de Lynch-Bages testifies to its capacity for innovation. Écho de Lynch-Bages, the second wine, offers a more supple and immediate approach to the Pauillac terroir, while retaining the elegance and character unique to Lynch-Bages. It is said that the village of Bages, once modest, has been transformed over the years thanks to the influence of the château. A sure bet in Bordeaux, which continues to captivate enthusiasts around the world.
